SPONSOR GUIDELINES

 

 Before distributing an application to a prospective candidate, you should consider the following :

  1. “Speak to God about man before speaking to man about God”  Make a friend be a friend, then bring that friend to Christ.
  1. Be familiar with the responsibilities of a Sponsor to the candidate, especially after the weekend. Do not Sponsor someone if you are unable to carry out the Sponsor’s responsibilities.
  1. A Sponsor should be involved in a permanent Friendship Group Reunion.

  Candidates who may attend a Cursillo weekend:

  1. Must be baptized, 21 years or older, made the Sacrament of Reconciliation and able to receive Eucharist.
  1. Married candidates must be married by the Catholic Church.
  1. Those who should not attend:

                         a.  Have psychological or emotional problems

                         b.  Have substance abuse problems

                         c.  Have recently been divorced or separated

                         d.  Not married but living with someone

 

Inform your candidate of the following:

  1. Let your candidate know that someone from the Pre-Cursillo will be contacting  him/her to confirm receipt of their application.  An Invitation Letter will follow.

  1. A donation is requested to cover the cost of the weekend.  If a candidate is unable to pay or can only pay part, it will not prevent him/her from attending.  The candidate and/or Sponsor is encouraged to give what he/she can.

  1. Applications are due four (4) weeks prior to the Cursillo weekend.

 

 

Procedures for completing an application:

 

Step 1 – Application is giving to the prospective candidate by his/her sponsor to complete

 

Step 2 – The  application is taken by the applicant  to his/her priest or deacon for completion of  Part 2.  The application is returned to the sponsor

               with a deposit if possible.

 

Step 3 – The sponsor’s information sheet is to be completed by the sponsor.

 

Step 4 - Attach the candidates application (and deposit if collected) to your sponsor sheet and return to the Cursillo Center or designated

              Pre-Cursillo member.

 

Attention: Candidates from other dioceses need approval of the secretariats of both dioceses. (Sec. III, C of the Diocese of Galveston-Houston Cursillo Movement By-Laws)  They also need the spiritual director’s approval.
